[1] Effective economic control of 100% through a life of mine contract
CoAL is the technical partner to the joint venture and has an exclusive off-take agreement for all the run-of-mine coal from Zonnebloem Coal Mine, most of which feeds CoAL’s wash plant at Woestalleen Colliery.
The joint venture at Zonnebloem has been a great success, with the new mine opening in record time, monthly ROM production approximately 300,000 mt and a good working relationship having developed with the joint venture partner.
Mining is currently by opencast mining, to a maximum depth of 30 metres, with low stripping ratios of about 3.0 cubic metres of overburden to 1.0 tonne of coal.
