Nimag Group Overview

The Nimag Group of Companies goes back to 1962, where, under the name "Metallurgical" Processes (Pty) Ltd, the manufacture of Nickel Magnesium Master Alloys commenced in the small town of Magaliesburg, 75km west of Johannesburg, ZA.

Metallurgical Processes (Pty) Ltd became NiMag Ltd (the parent company of the Group) in 1995 and NiMag (Pty) Ltd in 2003. The group is focused on the production of Nickel Magnesium and other Master Alloys. Magberg Manufacturing commenced production of Ferro Silicon Magnesium alloys in 1997, while Metalloy Fibres (Pty) Ltd began manufacturing stainless steel reinforcing fibres in 2001.

In 2004 the company structure was changed to the following: NiMag (Pty) Ltd; Magberg Manufacturing (a division of NiMag (Pty) Ltd); Metalloy Fibres (Pty) Ltd, Metalloy Trading (a division of NiMag (Pty) Ltd) and Chromet (Pty) Ltd.

Nimag (Pty) Ltd

Manufacturers of specialised master alloys of nickel and magnesium for the specialised foundry industry including aerospace, aeronautical, heavy motor, steel mill roll and associated industries. Nimag is the world market leader. The Company produces approximately 30% of the world’s supply of the alloy.

Magberg Manufacturing

A specialised producer of ferro silicon magnesium alloys used to manufacture Ductile Iron. Capacity is limited and the production historically split equally between local and export. This is a commodity product and almost all costs are Rand denominated.

Metalloy Fibres (Pty) Ltd

The company is the only cast fibre manufacturer in Africa. In recent years the company has developed additional fibres both metallic and synthetic to be used in all forms of reinforcing. The Gautrain rail project has substantially improved the business in terms of volumes and margins. With the recent weakening of the rand and strengthening of the nickel price, the Company is enjoying improved profitability and in the September quarter reported EBIT of $1.6million (AU).

Metalloy Trading

Metalloy Trading, a division of Metalloy Fibres (Pty) Ltd specialises in the marketing and distribution of non-production Group metallurgical products concentrating on specialised materials. It is also well placed to offer logistical and related services both for export and for import.

Chromet (Pty) Ltd

Chromet (Pty) Ltd, is a company which historically produced chrome as an element. Production and sales will recommence for all the Group’s chrome associated products and management anticipate manufacturing chrome in the near future at a new factory site.
